Hello!
It's been over a week since the debrief of the first play testing. In that time, I've implemented many of the suggestions I received. Yesterday, I uploaded the 0.0.2 build to my github repo. I'll do a debrief of the play testing session after that's occurred, I'm hoping to do that this weekend.
I fixed the biggest complaint with the shop menu, there not being enough time in between waves to rearm/reload, by allowing the player to decide when they want to proceed to the next wave by pressing a GUI button. I played around with switching to another scene, but ran into major challenges with inventory data persistence. I'm shelving that idea for now.
Instead of switching to another scene to view the shop, I'm going to make the shop more detailed in the Game scene. For now, the shop menu will be split into three tabs: weapons, ammo, misc. The first two are self-explanatory; misc will be for healing and maybe consumables. At some point, I'd like to add the swappable magazine system back into the project, so that could be another tab.
Here's what I've drafted for the new shop menu:
I think having the shop display over the HUD looks very clean after minor polishing.
As for pausing the game when the shop is open, I plan to come back to that later. As stated previously, the pause method I uses breaks GUI functionality, and I'll have to work on creating a pause method that does not do that.
I'm still quite pleased with my progress on this game. It's slow, but steady. Maybe, this year I can get to the first release build.
As for my current job, it's going very well. I've been put in charge of a critical role in my department, and am managing it very well. 2026 has been, and will continue to be, a great year for me.
Thanks for reading!
