Hello.

It has been one month since the last devlog, and a little more since I last worked on this project. In devlog #15, I discussed the situation regarding art assets. Since then, my former artist jumped ship because he disagreed with some very minor design choices. Needless to say, that was very inconsiderate and rude for him to do. That, combined with his estimated date of completion for the assets being very inaccurate, has killed the momentum I built up for this project over the last six months.

That said, it is still my intention to finish this game. I have put in countless hours, and that will not be in vain.

At this time, the work required for completion of the release build remains mostly the same as mentioned in devlog #15.

Completion Requirements:

  • Complete character art
  • Reworked map art
  • Play testing
  • Minor bug fixes
  • Audio

I have toyed with the idea of completely switching the game's theme, while still retaining the same mechanics. That would streamline the rest of development, but my concern is that my game will just be yet another zombie shooter on the market, not something unique.

The biggest hurdle I can foresee is getting satisfactory artwork without spending a small fortune, and I'm not exactly keen on working with more artists. This leaves me three options: do it myself, or find acceptable assets, or pay yet another artist. I will weigh those options over the next few days to weeks.

In other related news, I picked up several books on C# and Unity from my local library. I've always enjoyed reading, and it's my preferred method to learn and take in information. These books should help with the development of this project and others. Next, I will have to study game design.

Since summer is effectively here, I will not be putting very much time into this project, until late fall and throughout the winter. I am making a point to spend vastly less time inside on the computer, and am filling my free time with: exercising, socializing, and reading.

As for the start to my career, it's mostly status quo. I'm still cutting plenty of cables while being a general helper and laborer. My department has also cut down on overtime, which means I have more time to do fun stuff outside. Thankfully, the company has hired another guy to cut cables so I can move onto actual electrical work. I did sign up for school too, and I may even be able to get in this year. 2026 continues to be a great year for me.

Thanks for reading.
