Hello!
For quite awhile, I've enjoyed this neat game called War on the Sea. It's a naval tactical and strategic combat simulator set during the Second World War in the Pacific. The base game's campaigns revolve around either the IJN or USN's attempt to secure Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, circa 1942.
This year, a developer by the name of Kiko released a brand new mod that focuses is on the entirety of the Pacific Theatre. Quite frankly, it's a fucking awesome mod that I've sunk many hours into playing.
My interest in this game and that mod inspired me to start creating tools to make that dev's modding life easier. Currently, if you want to create new missions for the enemy AI, you either have to write them out by hand in JSONL or get something like ChatGPT to do that.
My tool will streamline the process of creating new missions and files. All you need to do is manually plug values into the interface and it will output a working file. In the future, I plan to include a feature where you can edit existing Sea Mission files.
Currently, I'm am working on the proof of concept, and it's nearly ready for testing before initial release. Attached below will be some screenshots of what I've created thus far.
The secondary purpose of this project is to allow me to gradually return to software and video game development in Unity. I took a long break after an artist I paid to make assets for my game decided it would be a great idea to be an asshole and jump ship after I asked for some minor tweaks to the sprites.
I've been working on this tool since mid-July of this year, and I'm quite proud of the work I've put into it.
I'm in the process of writing a proper design document and a roadmap, and will release the latter alongside the v0.1.0 build of this tool.
